Olympic skateboarder Arisa Trew achieved two major victories at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris: she won a gold medal and earned herself a pet duck! The 14-year-old athlete made history as the youngest Australian and Olympic debutante to win gold with a score of 93.18, beating competitors from Japan and Great Britain. Her parents promised that if she won, they would buy her a pet duck — a dream that has now come true.

In an interview with Nine News, Arisa shared: «My parents definitely wouldn’t allow me to have a dog or a cat because we travel so much… But I think a duck might be a little easier, and… I just want a duck».

Reflecting on her historic victory, she told journalists: «It's an incredible feeling to have the gold medal around my neck… It was my goal since watching the Olympics in Tokyo 2020. It inspired me and made me come to these Olympic Games and stand on the podium, which is just amazing».

Arisa’s father, Simon, expressed his disbelief at her success, telling journalists: «We can’t believe it. It’s madness, absolutely madness… It’s just incredible that someone who loves skateboarding and has fun can achieve this».

He also praised her coach, saying: «Her coach Trev did an amazing job. He pushed her to victory — it’s just absolutely insane». Her father also shared how his daughter found the courage to skateboard, «going out and having fun and enjoying the sport», - and «being active and having a good time».

Arisa was congratulated by many, including skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who congratulated her in an Instagram video of her performance. He wrote: «Congratulations @arisa_trew on her epic final run in the women’s park final today after lunch, earning her well-deserved gold».

Tony Hawk also acknowledged the efforts of silver medalist Kokona Hiraki and bronze medalist Sky Brown, noting that the new generation of skateboarders has brought the sport into a «new era of equality and inclusivity»
