The theme of the 2024 event is «Sleeping Beauties: Awakening of Fashion», - and the dress code is «Garden of Time», - according to Vogue. The exhibition will include 50 pieces of clothing that are too fragile to be worn again. The full collection will feature 250 designs from four centuries, taken from the museum’s permanent collection.
Nature is also expected to be a key element of the theme «as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion» and will help visitors «explore cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal».
The focus of the exhibition theme is to «breathe new life into these historical objects through creative and immersive activations designed to convey the scents, sounds, textures, and movements of clothing that can no longer directly interact with the body». To achieve this goal, the 2024 show «explores the concepts of rebirth and renewal, using nature as a metaphor for the impermanence of fashion».
The «Garden of Time» dress code includes «clothing and fashion so fragile that it can never be worn again», - according to Vogue. It is expected that the Met Gala 2024 will feature «various fashion ensembles, starting from the bodices of the English Elizabethan era in the 17th century, embodying the beauty of the natural world — its fragility and inevitable decay. More modern, less fragile items, imbued with the same spirit as the exhibited fashion ensembles, will be shown alongside them and divided into three sub-themes: Earth, Sea, and Sky».
