We may be a year away from the 2026 Winter Olympics, but we are already looking forward to cheering for our countries and joining in the celebrations that the whole world will be watching. Information about the upcoming Winter Olympics is already available. Learn more about the international competition below.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in Italy, in the two cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. In 2019, Italy was chosen based on the results of the bidding process, with Sweden being the finalist country, according to USA TODAY. Italy will be hosting the Olympics for the fourth time. The opening ceremony will take place at San Siro, the home stadium of the AC Milan football club, and the closing ceremony will be held at the Roman amphitheater known as the Arena di Verona. The previous Winter Olympics took place in China, making it the only country to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

The next Winter Olympics will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026. We are eagerly anticipating this event, as 116 medals will be awarded in 16 sports. New logos for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics were also selected through a popular vote, marking a historic event, as reported by Bleacher Report. Fun fact: Tina will be a cheerful representative of the Winter Olympics.

Traditional sports such as figure skating and skiing will be present, but there will also be new additions next year. A new sport making its Olympic debut is ski mountaineering, or skimo. This race involves ascending rough terrain and then descending on skis. There will also be new competitions in men’s and women’s double skiing, double moguls, and individual large hill jumping, according to Bleacher Report.

The next Summer Olympics will take place in the United States in 2028. The competitions will be held in Los Angeles from July 21 to August 6, 2028. Los Angeles was chosen as the next host city back in 2017. Los Angeles has previously hosted the Olympics in 1984 and 1932, as reported by CBS. The most recent Summer Olympics took place in Paris, France, in 2024
