ABC News correspondent Terry Moran has been suspended from his job after posting a controversial statement on Twitter. His suspension has sparked disagreement among Americans, as some questioned the network’s actions, while others defended them. So why exactly was Moran suspended and when will he return to work?
Here is what we know about Moran’s suspension at ABC News.
Moran is a journalist and senior national correspondent at ABC News. He mainly covers politics and reports from the White House and the Supreme Court. Previously, Moran was ABC’s chief foreign correspondent from 2013 to 2018, and he co-hosted ABC News' Nightline program from 2005 to 2013. From 1999 to 2005, Moran was the network’s chief White House correspondent.
Moran was suspended from ABC News after openly criticizing senior White House aide Stephen Miller and Donald Trump in a now-deleted tweet. According to a screenshot of the original post, Moran tweeted about Miller: «You see, his hate — is his spiritual nourishment. He feeds on his hate». He also described Miller as a man «with a rich store of hatred» and a «world-class hater».
Moran then added that Trump is also a «world-class hater. But his hate — is just a means to an end, and that end — is his own glorification».
In response to Moran’s statement, Miller replied: «The most important fact about Terry’s total public breakdown is what it reveals about corporate press in America. For decades, privileged anchors and journalists, telling and controlling our society, have been radicals posing as journalists. Terry has ripped off his mask».
According to a statement from an ABC News representative, Moran «has been suspended pending further evaluation».
«ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others», - the representative added. «The [Moran's] post does not reflect the views of ABC News and violated our standards».
ABC did not specify when Moran will return to work.
Yes, Moran is married to his wife, Johanna Cox, a former journalist for Elle. He was previously married to his ex-wife, Karen Osler.
Moran has children from both marriages, one from his first marriage to Osler and three children from his marriage to Cox
