Adam Rubin, the owner of Art of Play, reached out to Kelly Clarkson after she made negative comments about his store on social media. Clarkson claimed that she was treated as if she could not afford a $ 15,000 animatronic bird, comparing the situation to a famous scene from the movie «Pretty Woman» starring Julia Roberts.
In response, Art of Play stated on social media that they hope to «someday clarify the situation with Kelly» and that the mechanical singing bird named Molly has never been for sale, as «she plays an important role in the magical shows» held at the store. It was also noted that the bird is «permanently attached to the wall».
Adam Rubin told «Extra» that his store has faced attacks from internet trolls. He remarked, «This is a crazy misunderstanding. Nothing happened in our store that could justify her accusations towards our salesperson at the exit, but I can forgive that. Everyone has bad days… But everything changed when she used her platform to attack us».
Rubin added that he would like to invite Clarkson to the store so she could see the show and choose something she likes. «If she likes something, and we have something comparable, we can show it to her. We can’t promise we won’t show her similar items if she’s interested in one of them», - he said.
Clarkson’s recent post on X was a response to Art of Play’s statement that the bird is not for sale. She shared an old image from Google, which she claimed showed a price tag next to the toy, and wrote, «Cool, cool. Of course, it’s not for sale. This is the narrative that Art of Play will go with, so the whole conversation we had when I asked you if it was for sale, pointing to the price tag, didn’t happen». Clarkson also added that she supports small businesses, but that does not give them the right to mistreat customers.
