Adidas was forced to pull their latest advertising campaign featuring Bella Hadid after facing criticism.

The professional shot showed the 27-year-old model dressed in a white fluffy top and shorts adorned with the company’s symbolic three stripes in dark blue. In addition to the cozy clothing, she held a bouquet of red flowers in her hands, which lay over her ankles, where her red Adidas sneakers and white socks were visible.

The idea behind this shot was to capture classic sneakers inspired by the 1972 Munich Olympics, where problems arose among consumers during the Summer Games when a terrorist attack occurred — a Palestinian armed group killed a German policeman and 11 Israeli athletes.

A Palestinian model posted on Instagram with the advertising campaign spotted on a large billboard in the background. This led many to leave negative comments under her post.

«I will never buy Adidas again», - wrote one user.

Another user noted: «Shame on Adidas! #BoycottBella».

While some were against the model, others decided to express their support: «All of you criticizing the Palestinian woman in the comments, who has done more for [the Palestinian flag] than any of you in 5 lifetimes, you all think you know better, but you are part of the problem yourselves».

«SUPPORT BELLA», - someone else added.

The «unintentional» reference, as stated by Adidas, relates to current events such as the war between Israel and Hamas. Bella spoke out about the ongoing war in a statement posted on her Instagram: «My heart aches for the pain of the wounds I see, as well as the generational trauma of my Palestinian blood… I mourn with all the mothers who have lost children, and the children crying alone, with all the lost fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, friends who will never step foot on this land again».

The well-known sportswear brand released a statement on Thursday, July 18, noting: «We recognize that connections were made to tragic historical events — though they were entirely unintentional — and apologize for any discomfort or concern caused… As a result, we are reevaluating the remaining part of the campaign. We believe in sport as a unifying force worldwide and will continue our efforts to support diversity and equality in everything we do»
