Adil Osmanov from Moldova celebrated one of the brightest moments in the career of most athletes — victory and a medal, when his joy quickly turned into pain.

On Monday, July 29, the 24-year-old athlete had just defeated Italian Manuel Lombardo in the 73 kg judo weight category and won a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. However, the moment was overshadowed by an unexpected injury that caused him to roll in pain and grab his body.

Unfortunately, one of his quick celebratory movements led to a dislocated shoulder.

Osmanov later admitted that he had been suffering from an illness before the match and had been recommended to have shoulder surgery before the Olympics, as reported by Metro UK.

«Yes, it was very difficult. And during warm-up, I started feeling bad, but I had already been through it — and that’s when I got the medal», - he said. «I had no choice but to push through».

Although the injury seemed quite painful, the Olympian fortunately recovered enough to participate in the award ceremony alongside gold medalist Hidayat Heydarov and silver medalist Joan-Benjamin Gaba.

According to the official Olympic website, Osmanov’s father recommended him to try judo.

«I come from a sports family. My father practiced sambo, my mother did track and field, and my brother and sister also practice judo», - Osmanov said in May.

He dedicated his medal to his late father, saying, «He dreamed of making it to the Olympics».

Moldova’s President Maia Sandu congratulated the young athlete after his victory.

«Another bronze medal for Moldova!» she wrote in a post on X along with a photo of him after the competition. «Congratulations to our judoka Adil Osmanov on an impressive performance at the Olympics. Your achievement is a victory for all of us!»

Igor Grosu, the speaker of Moldova’s parliament, also made a statement, as reported by The Standard.

«Our judo athletes are showing outstanding results at the Olympic Games in Paris. A second bronze medal for Moldova, in judo», - Grosu allegedly said. «Well done, Adil Osmanov. Your hard work and perseverance have brought us pride and happiness. Let’s go, Moldova»
