Krista Pike’s attorney, who was sentenced to death in Tennessee, reported on the condition of his client following two unsuccessful execution attempts. According to attorney Stephen Ferrell, Pike remains in the hospital on a ventilator and in critical condition. He noted that the prognosis for her condition is currently unknown and may not become clear for several days.
Ferrell also stated that he has not had the opportunity to visit Pike in the hospital, adding that he does not know who may have seen her. He emphasized that the state of Tennessee has not yet announced whether a new execution attempt will be made. Krista Pike was scheduled to be executed on September 30, and she received two injections that did not result in death. After the injections, witnesses in the viewing room reported hearing her snoring and complaining of pain, after which she was taken to a local hospital.
In an emergency court filing obtained by Us, Pike’s attorneys reported that as of October 1, she remains in critical condition, intubated, and unconscious. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has opened an investigation into the failed executions, and Police Commissioner Frank Strada resigned on October 3. Strada stated that he believes the department fulfilled its duties in accordance with established protocols and expressed his willingness to assist in the investigation.
