The actors of the movie «Beetlejuice» received a warm welcome from the audience at the Venice Film Festival, where their upcoming film was greeted with minute-long ovations.
Stars Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice), Winona Ryder (Lydia), Jenna Ortega (Astrid), Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz) and others, as well as director Tim Burton, all smiled at the applause they received. The 66-year-old director is reviving the 1988 classic with a new plot: «After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers a mysterious model of the town in the attic, accidentally opening a portal to the afterlife», - according to IMDb.
The actors made a bright appearance on the red carpet in Italy, some of them embodying their characters from «Beetlejuice». For example, 21-year-old Disney star Jenna Ortega arrived in a voluminous red dress, admiring the wardrobe of the 52-year-old actress from «Stranger Things», - where Lydia is seen marrying the ghost himself. Winona embodied the essence of her character with a punk-rock look, including a voluminous long skirt and a strict top of the suit.
The sequel to the film has caused significant excitement, reminiscent of the enthusiasm Tim Burton received when the original film grossed $ 8 million at the box office in 1988. 36 years later, the director reflects on the influence the original film had on his career and approach to its sequel.
Speaking to Variety, Burton shared: «Revisiting this was nice because Lydia was a character I always felt a strong connection to. What happens to people after 35 years? Where do they go? What is their journey? And what happened to the Deetz family? This feeling was quite simple and emotional for me. It became an anchor from where it all started. When you go from a cool teenager to an adult, what journey do you go through?»
He added: «Working with these people I love — Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder — was just very strange, but beautiful».
