Alex Cooper discussed the Cornell gang rape case
Alex Cooper discussed the alleged gang rape of a Cornell University student in 2024 in a new episode of her podcast «Call Her Daddy». In a conversation with philosophy professor Kate Manne, she noted that it has been nearly ten years since the #MeToo movement began and asked, «How are we still here?»

Cooper mentioned that she reached out to Manne because she considers her one of the most prominent feminist thinkers of our time. Before the interview, she referenced an anonymous former student who filed a lawsuit claiming she was raped by seven brothers from the Chi Phi fraternity at a party in October 2024.

Cooper emphasized that discussions about violence on campuses and consent have been ongoing for a long time, and despite the availability of language, research, and resources to understand sexual violence, the situation has not changed. She expressed frustration that such discussions continue, noting that the allegations «carry the weight of countless stories that we, women, hold».

Manne also expressed support for the victim, stating, «For the record, I believe Jane Doe».

The lawsuit was filed in the New York Supreme Court on September 16, alleging that the student was drugged and sexually assaulted on October 19, 2024. The case has garnered national attention, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor to conduct a renewed investigation. A legal expert noted that high-profile lawsuits often lead to criminal investigations, and the accused may face criminal charges.
