Alice Liu is a true queen of ice dancing, but first and foremost, she is a family person at heart. The two-time Olympian won a gold medal in women’s singles skating at the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, and her father, along with her siblings, came to support her!
The story of the Oakland, California resident’s comeback will go down in history. She became the first American to win gold in this event in over 20 years. Naturally, fans assumed that Alice had been constantly competing to reach this moment, but in reality, she stepped away from competitive skating in her teenage years and acknowledged that it was family that caused her brief retirement.
«When the quarantine started, I thought, 'Wow! This is what it’s like not to skate.' And I really enjoyed it», - Alice told The Guardian in March 2025. «I was worried that I would never be able to live with my family. I was growing up so fast. I knew that if I continued skating, I wouldn’t have a chance to be home».

Alice’s father is Arthur Liu, who has supported her throughout her skating career since she started skating at the age of 5. Arthur was born and raised in China but was forced to leave the country at 25 due to his involvement in the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. He moved to the Bay Area in California, where he studied and eventually became a lawyer. He opened his own practice, Inter-Pacific Law Group Inc., and became the father of five children through surrogacy.
According to several reports, Alice and Arthur became the subject of a surveillance operation allegedly organized by the Chinese government. In an interview with the Associated Press, Arthur stated that the government «was surely just trying to intimidate us, threatening not to say anything that would cause them trouble or raise political issues or human rights violations in China».
Acknowledging that he has «concerns» about Alice’s safety, Arthur noted that the U.S. government «is protecting her well».
«I kind of accepted my life as it is because of what I chose to do in 1989, standing up against the government», - Arthur explained. «And I know that the Chinese government will reach its long arms into any corner of the world. I will continue to enjoy my life and live the way I want. I won’t let this break me, and I won’t let them succeed».
Alice’s mother was an anonymous egg donor, as she and her siblings were born through surrogacy. Arthur’s ex-wife, Yang «Mary» Qinxin, helped raise his children until their divorce, according to The Sporting News. After that, Arthur and his mother Shu raised Alice and her siblings.
Alice has four siblings: sister Selina and triplets Julia, Joshua, and Justin. Alice is the eldest among them, and they all grew up in Northern California.
In a February 2025 interview with A Divine Sport, Alice enthusiastically shared that she loves her siblings «to death».
«We just love to tease each other, play», - she said. «None of us gets mad; we don’t fight. It’s just fun to be around them. You can be yourself and say whatever is on your mind»
