Countless Americans want to learn more about Donald Trump’s «America First» plan. Under his leadership, several financial plans and actions have already been implemented, including reducing federal spending by laying off employees. The President assured the public that this would be in their best interest. Now, after the new resolution was approved by the House Republicans, questions have arisen regarding Medicaid.

Below you will learn more about Medicaid and whether changes can be expected in the healthcare program.

Trump promised that Medicaid will not be «touched» during an interview with Fox News in February 2025.

«Social Security will not be touched, except for fraud or something we discover», - Trump said. «It will be strengthened, but it will not be touched. Medicare, Medicaid, none of that will be touched».

However, after the House Republicans approved the budget resolution in February 2025, several sources reported possible cuts to Medicaid. Although the resolution does not specify specific cuts to Medicaid, it indicates that the House Energy and Commerce Committee — which has jurisdiction over the program — will identify cuts totaling $ 880 billion, according to Newsweek.

According to the American Hospital Association, more than 70 million Americans are covered by Medicaid. This represents one in five people in the United States or 40% of the population. The healthcare program is funded by both federal and state governments.

The resolution — a plan approved by the House Republicans in February 2025 — involves the introduction of certain tax breaks, including for certain earnings typically received by workers in the hospitality industry. Potential plans include canceling taxes on tips, overtime, and social security, which would benefit waiters, bartenders, drivers, and others who rely on tips for income.

During a speech in Nevada in early 2025, Trump told a crowd of supporters that he wants to reduce taxes on tips and compensation for overtime work.

«So, if you work in a restaurant, as a waiter, driver, bellhop, bartender, or one of my caddies», - Trump said, then joked: «I change caddies like candy; if I play poorly, I always blame my caddie». He then added, «Your tips will be entirely yours. Won’t that be great?»
