Comedian Amy Schumer was married to her husband Chris Fischer for seven years before announcing her «difficult decision» to divorce. Without specifying the reasons for the split, Amy shared a post on Instagram in December 2025, in which she wrote, among other things, «We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son».
«Friendly, with love and respect! Family forever», - Amy concluded her post, which included photos of her and Chris over the years of their life together.
During their marriage, the couple faced many challenges. Here’s what you need to know about Chris.
Chris has worked in renowned restaurants around the world. He was the personal chef for New York restaurateur Keith McNally, served as a sous chef at Mario Batali’s restaurant «Babbo» in New York, cooked at Ruth Rogers' «River Café» in London, and worked on Alice Waters' sustainable food project in Rome, according to BU Today. In her 2019 special «Growing», - Amy joked about her husband’s profession, noting that it was one of the perks of their marriage. «I married a chef because I’m freaking brilliant», - she said.
Chris is the father of Amy’s only son. The comedian gave birth to Gene David Fischer via cesarean section in May 2019. Initially, their baby was named Gene Attell after stand-up comedy legend Dave Attell, but Amy admitted she changed the name when she realized it sounded like «genitals», - in an episode of her podcast «3 Girls, 1 Keith» in April 2020. Nevertheless, Amy shared that Gene might follow in his father’s footsteps when she posted a cute photo of him dressed in a «junior chef» outfit that same month. The couple may also be planning for a second child in the near future! In January 2020, Amy opened up about her struggles with IVF and mentioned that she and her husband were discussing having a second child and «trying to figure it out» in an interview in April 2021 on The Ellen Show.
The whole family appeared on the Food Network show «Amy Schumer Learns to Cook», - which premiered in May 2020. In this series, Chris taught his wife all the nuances of cooking. While Chris showcased his culinary tools in the kitchen, Amy demonstrated her bartending skills with amazing cocktail recipes. The second season of the show aired in August 2020. An uncensored version of the series became available on Discovery+ in January 2021. Amy and Chris both served as executive producers on this project, which received a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2020 for «Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program».
In addition to the cooking show, Chris also appeared in Amy’s documentary series «Expecting Amy» on HBOMax. This three-part documentary from 2020 chronicled the couple’s journey through pregnancy and Amy’s struggle with hyperemesis, a pregnancy complication that includes severe nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms. It also showcased the work Amy did for her stand-up special «Growing», - where she jokes about pregnancy and her husband.
Rumors about Amy and Chris dating began to surface in November 2017 when they were spotted having dinner together, but Amy stated that she was «dating a new guy» back in June. She is reportedly indebted to Chris for this, as his sister is said to be Amy’s personal assistant, according to E! News, and she apparently helped Amy find her future husband. If fans need another dose of celebrity connections, Chris reportedly met Mario Batali through Jake Gyllenhaal, who appeared in an episode of «Inside Amy Schumer» in 2016. Hopefully, Jake was invited to the surprise wedding!
Chris’s family has been running a farm on Martha’s Vineyard since 1961. «I have an unconventional approach to work», - he says. «I dove into the world of chefs without a culinary education and was so focused in the first two and a half years that I learned to run a three-star kitchen at Babbo by the age of 25». He described his culinary experience as «unusual»
