Anne Hathaway admitted that she has not been drinking for five years in a new interview with The New York Times, published on Saturday, April 27. The Oscar-winning actress, 41, opened up about how she has been sober for five years as she discussed how she is navigating her 40s and what a milestone age it is. «I have so many other milestones. I don’t usually talk about it, but I haven’t been drinking for over five years», - she said.
In addition to being sober, Anne confessed that she considers the fact that she has not been drinking for five years to be a more significant achievement than turning 40. «That's a milestone for me. Forty is a gift», - she told The Times.
Although Anne had not publicly admitted to being sober for five years before, this is not the first time the actress has spoken about giving up alcohol. She previously talked about her decision to stop drinking on the March cover of Vanity Fair. «I knew deep down that it wasn’t for me», - she told the publication. «And it seemed like such a relief to say, 'But nothing?' But nothing. If you have an allergy to something or if you have an anaphylactic reaction to something, you don’t argue with it. So I stopped arguing with it».
The «Princess Diaries» star admitted that she understands that everyone must make their own decisions regarding alcohol, and she acknowledged that it simply is not for her. «My personal experience tells me that everything has gotten better. It was fuel for self-destruction for me. And I don’t like to self-destruct», - she said.
