Ann Coulter faced backlash from social media after she posted — and then deleted — a tweet about Tim Walz’s son, Gus. Following the third evening of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, the 62-year-old conservative media personality commented on the 17-year-old's reaction to his father’s nomination for vice president.

On Wednesday, August 21, 60-year-old Minnesota Governor Tim spoke at the Democratic National Convention, and Gus was seen crying and saying, «That's my dad». Tim told his wife and children from the podium, «Hope, Gus, Gwen — you are my whole world. I love you all so much».

Shortly after this, Ann shared an article about Gus’s emotional reaction to Tim’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, writing, «How strange…». However, she quickly deleted the post after internet users criticized her for the comment.

Gus lives with nonverbal learning disorder, attention deficit, and hyperactivity.

«People attacking or mocking 17-year-old Gus Walz simply do not understand what JOY and LOVE are», - wrote one user. «They wish they had someone who cared for them as much as Gus cares for his father. Gus has nonverbal learning disorder. He is neurodivergent and has attention deficit and hyperactivity. He is proud of his father. So shut up already. I’m glad to see people from both sides of the aisle standing up against the mud that’s out there. Treat people as if they were your own children».

Another user stated that Ann «represents the worst in America» and urged others to «RETWEET if you stand with Tim Walz’s family against her hateful attacks!» While a second person even tweeted that some «MAGATs are upset that Ann Coulter is mocking a disabled child».

A separate commentator also told Ann to «go to hell», - adding in the tweet, «My granddaughter is autistic and nonverbal. Our family is from Texas and most of us were die-hard Republicans for most of our lives. Thank you for completely turning them off from the Republican Party!»

Ann has not yet publicly responded to the criticism for her rude comment.

Before Tim’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, he and his wife, Gwen Walz, spoke to PEOPLE about their son.

«When our youngest Gus was little, it became increasingly clear that he was different from his classmates», - the couple told the publication earlier this week. «Gus preferred video games and spent more time alone. As he became a teenager, we learned that Gus has nonverbal learning disorder, as well as anxiety disorder and attention deficit, conditions that are also present in millions of Americans».

Gwen and Tim concluded their statement by recalling that it took them «time» to understand that «Gus's condition is not a hindrance — it is his secret strength»
