Antoni Ammirati could not overcome the hurdle because of the «projection», but that’s not true

The internet was quick to blame Anthony Ammirati for hitting the crossbar, but in reality, it was another appendix that was responsible for it.
At the men’s qualifying competition at the Olympics in Paris on August 3, the 21-year-old Olympian went viral after a video of one of his attempts in pole vault showed that he failed to clear the crossbar due to his «appendix». However, during the jump, Ammirati first hit the crossbar with his knees while trying to clear it. This made the jump unsuccessful, but then Ammirati’s bravery made a noticeable contact with the crossbar, sending it down onto the mat.
«It's a big disappointment. I’m a little sorry because on the third attempt at a height of 5.70m, I didn’t miss anything. What I missed was a few jumps in training for tuning. Just a technical session», - said the first-time Olympian in a statement published by the French Athletics Federation. «The conditions were good. It’s the first time I started a competition without stress. Since I was a complete outsider, I had only one goal: to play with the audience. I was almost there».
Ammirati also shared a tribute published by the French sports academy Envol, not commenting on the moment that caused his Instagram followers to grow from less than 10,000 to 127,000.
«We are proud of you @anthony_ammirati», - the academy’s Instagram post read in French. «Despite the last two physically tough weeks, you managed to be there, even if we are disappointed, like you, because of that crossbar at 5m70. We wish you to have an unforgettable Olympic experience».
Although the reason the Olympian did not advance to the final of the men’s pole vault may not be entirely accurate according to the firestorm on social media, Ammirati, who ultimately finished 15th in the competition, is receiving increasing support from fans and advice from former coach of tennis icon Serena Williams.
Six-time Grand Slam winner, before transitioning to a coaching role, Renee Stubbs humorously tweeted: «Seriously!!! When your sport is about jumping over a crossbar and it’s about millimeters! My man! Call drag queen! She’ll teach you how to hide it! This is incredible!»
One user X added: «Wow, even if he lost the game, in a way he won his life»
