Apple is shining.
On Monday, September 8, the headquarters of the technological giant from Cupertino held an event called «It's Glowtime», introducing a range of new technologies, including the latest versions of the iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch.
For their latest mobile devices, Apple introduced the AI-enhanced iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, as well as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
«The next generation iPhone has been designed with Apple Intelligence from the very beginning. This marks the beginning of an exciting new era», - said CEO Tim Cook at the product presentation.
The new iPhones are fully compatible with all AI-powered features that will be added to iOS 18 in the coming months. The premium models, available in black, silver, gray, and rose gold, have improved screens and cameras compared to the regular versions.
The iPhone 16 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max offers a larger 6.9-inch display, larger than the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens of previous models. Apple claims that these new models have «the thinnest borders among all Apple products» and describes them as «our best iPhone displays ever». The use of titanium, which is almost twice as light as stainless steel, makes the phones «more scratch-resistant than other forms of titanium used by others».
The company also noted that the Pro Max will have «the best battery life in iPhone history», - although additional details were not provided.
The Pro models are equipped with the A18 Pro chip with second-generation 3-nanometer transistors and a new 16-core neural engine designed specifically for generative AI workloads. This update leads to a 17% increase in overall system memory bandwidth and is described as «even faster and more efficient than A18», - according to Apple.
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will be available for pre-order starting Friday, and will be in stores on September 20.
Apple also highlighted updates to its AirPods lineup, introducing the AirPods 4 — redesigned using advanced modeling tools to improve user ear fit and calling them «the most comfortable» to date.
The company also developed a hearing test included in iOS 18, based on research showing that 75% of people with hearing loss have not received the necessary help. After the test, AirPods Pro will function as hearing aids, pending FDA approval.
Also announced on Monday was the Apple Watch Series 10.
Although similar to previous models, Series 10 has a thinner design and larger screen sizes of 42 mm and 46 mm, instead of 41 mm and 45 mm in Series 9.
It will also offer a sleep apnea detection feature, pending FDA approval. Cook emphasized the impact of previous Apple Watch models on user health, focusing on health during the product presentation.
In addition, the Apple Watch Ultra will be available in a new black finish with a matching strap, as well as a new Hermès strap and watch face. However, Ultra will not receive any new hardware updates
