The HBO series «War» has successfully premiered, thanks to an unexpected twist presented at the end of the first episode. In the episode that aired on October 1, viewers are introduced to two prestigious law firms in London: Cathcarts and Taylor & Byrne, which are involved in a divorce lawsuit between tech entrepreneur Morgan (played by Dominic West) and his wife, movie star Carla (Sienna Miller).
The character Archie Renaux plays, Johnny, is an ambitious young lawyer trying to find a job after moving from New York. In the pilot episode, he applies for various positions, including one at Cathcarts, which seems to be unsuccessful. At the end of the episode, Morgan’s legal team informs him that they have planted a spy in Taylor & Byrne, who turns out to be Johnny. He got the job alongside Carla’s lawyers to gather information for his side.
Renaux, in an exclusive interview with Us, noted that he was very happy and excited when he read the first two scripts. He emphasized that he feels fortunate to have landed this role and finds it very interesting, as he was able to serve as a link between the two law firms and convey information from both offices to the audience.
Show creator George Kay revealed that the inspiration for the plot was partially drawn from real events and noted that they have a legal consultant working on high-profile divorce cases. However, as they worked on the script, they began to focus more on creating their own characters and storylines.
West, for his part, expressed interest in his character, noting that he was curious to play a «good-natured billionaire», - as he believes there are not many people like that. He added that his character is ruthless and competitive but also tries to do good.
The series «War» airs Thursdays at 9:00 PM Eastern Time on HBO and will be available for streaming on HBO Max.
