On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Sean «Diddy» Combs was arrested in New York by federal agents, and his charging documents were published shortly thereafter. The news came amidst legal troubles for the rapper and music producer, including a lawsuit filed in 2023 by his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, who claimed he had sexually assaulted her. Although he denied these allegations and reached a settlement, Combs is under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.
Additionally, his home was raided back in March, and Diddy’s two children — sons Justin and King Combs — were reportedly seen being led out of his Los Angeles home in handcuffs. Hours later, they were seen briefly returning to the house to collect their belongings and leave for an unknown location, as reported by TMZ. After the news broke, several other artists spoke out about their experiences with Diddy. Nearly a week after the raid, Diddy broke his silence on social media with a photo of his daughter on Easter.

The artist was arrested on Tuesday, and the charges against him were finally revealed on the same day he was detained. Diddy was charged with three felony crimes: organized crime, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution, according to NBC News. According to court documents, he and his accomplices were involved in «sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice».
Although he is in custody, his lawyer Mark Agnifilo told reporters: «He came to New York primarily to engage in the judicial system and start the case, and it will start today, and he will plead not guilty». Agnifilo added: «He will fight this with all his energy and all his might and with the full confidence of his lawyers».

The Department of Homeland Security did not publicly explain the reason for the raid on Diddy’s home. However, the agency released a statement to several media outlets about the incident.
«The Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York conducted law enforcement activities as part of an ongoing investigation with HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and our local law enforcement partners», - the Department of Homeland Security explained in a statement quoted by CNN. «We will provide additional information as it becomes available».
According to NBC, a source told the publication that «three women and a man were questioned by federal officials in Manhattan in connection with allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and involvement in the distribution and dissemination of illegal drugs and weapons». The publication also reported that the country’s security service and federal agents conducted raids on Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami. After the raids, law enforcement officials reportedly found weapons in both of the rapper’s residences.
After the raid, Diddy’s lawyer Aaron Dyer released a statement, describing the «excessive» force used during the raid. He also said that the rapper cooperated with law enforcement in the investigation. «Yesterday, excessive military force was used during the search of Mr. Combs' homes», - he said, quoted by E! News. «There is no justification for the excessive show of force and hostility displayed by authorities or the treatment of his children and employees».
The lawyer also defended Diddy’s innocence. «This unprecedented siege — combined with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to the premature condemnation of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on unfounded allegations made in civil suits», - he said. «No criminal or civil offense has been found in any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight»
