Sources have reported that several agencies, including the DEA, the US Postal Service, and the Los Angeles Police Department, conducted searches, seizing electronic devices to track the source of the ketamine that led to Matthew Perry’s death. As a result of their investigation, authorities in Los Angeles made an arrest.
NBC News reported Thursday morning that a man had been arrested in Southern California in connection with Perry’s accidental overdose case. The name of this individual, as well as other details, will be announced at a press conference in Los Angeles later today, August 15.
On October 28, the beloved actor was found face down in a hot tub by his assistant, and emergency responders declared him dead on the scene. He was 54 years old.
In May, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that they, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Postal Service, would begin investigating possible causes of Perry’s sudden death.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office stated in a report published in December that the «Friends» star died from «acute ketamine effects». The report also noted that drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine, used to treat addiction and pain, contributed to his death.
Perry had a history of drug and alcohol addiction, which he wrote about in his memoir «Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing».
«I wanted to share when I was safe from returning to the dark side», - Perry told PEOPLE for the cover story of 2022. «I had to wait until I was pretty securely sober — and away from active alcoholism and addiction — to write it all down. I was pretty sure it would help people if I did».
Perry underwent ketamine infusion therapy for anxiety and depression, but the ketamine found in his system at the time of his death was not prescribed and was at a level used for general anesthesia. According to the medical examiner’s report, his last session was a week and a half before his death.
The investigation uncovered text messages describing the illegal acquisition of ketamine, including discussions of the price Perry would pay. Authorities arrested several dealers and one doctor involved in supplying the drug
