Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were the most popular stars on the red carpet at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Thanks to their iconic outfits inspired by the musical «Wicked», - the filming partners exceeded expectations — and possibly even gravity — upon arrival at the location in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Posing for photos at the Friday event on July 26, Ariana, 31, was dressed in a sleeveless pale pink dress with matching hair tie and high-heeled shoes. As for Cynthia, 37, she chose a silk green dress with a matching hat, which evoked associations with «The Wizard of Oz» as they stood before the cameras together.

The powerful vocalists and talented actresses are promoting their upcoming movie, which is scheduled for release in theaters on November 22. In recent promotional events, Ari and Cynthia appeared in outfits that matched their characters. Ariana plays the role of Glinda, and Cynthia plays Elphaba, who ultimately becomes the Wicked Witch of the West in «The Wizard of Oz».

According to BroadwayWorld, Ariana talked about her preparation for the role of Glinda in an interview in February. The actress admitted that she «never wanted anything so badly in her career».

«I worked every day with my vocal coaches to transform my voice», - said the singer of the hit «Yes, And?». «My voice, everything about me, I had to kind of deconstruct myself to prove to them that I could handle this other character».

Further adding that «I had to completely erase the pop star Ari» to get the role of Glinda, Ariana acknowledged her roots on Broadway. She previously starred in the musical «13: The Musical» before landing a role in «Victorious».

«I'm a person who started on Broadway, and I’ve always been a musical theater person, and I’ve always been an actress», - she explained, adding that «I was missing the acting part. I think spending so much time with a character, instead of this stereotypical version of myself, was really nice».

Since she got the iconic role based on the original Broadway version, Ariana insists that she «really, really worked hard on this, and, my god, I’m so grateful for it, because it’s the best, most transformative and special experience in my life». As for how she relates to her character, the singer of «Break Free» noted that she has had a connection with the bright pink good witch since she was 10 years old.

«The funniest thing is that the reason I thought I loved Glinda at 10 years old so much doesn’t really match up with what makes us so close», - emphasized Ariana. «High notes, comedy, pink color, laughter, and clown — that’s what attracted me when I was 10, but it’s so interesting that beneath this superficial layer there is so much more»
