Armie Hammer addresses his controversial past. The 37-year-old actor, who was previously accused of cannibalistic desires, sexual violence, and other crimes, appeared on the podcast «Painful Lessons» on Sunday, June 16, to share his thoughts on his recovery and newfound peace. During the podcast episode, Armie noted that he is now «in a place in my life where I am grateful for every little part of it».
«I am really grateful for it now, because before all this happened to me, I didn’t feel good», - explained the former actor to host Tyler Ramsey. «I never felt satisfied; I was never enough; I was never in a place where I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem».
The star of «The Social Network» also noted that he «never knew how to love himself».
«I never knew how to give myself affirmation, but I had a job where I could get it from so many people that I never had to learn to give it to myself», - added Hammer, before admitting that he had contemplated suicide. «There were many moments when I thought, 'I can’t take this anymore.' I was hated, and it just seeped into me… I stood on the shore and swam far out to sea, and just lay there, attempting suicide halfway. But I thought I couldn’t do that to my children».
Hammer shares his children, daughter Harper and son Ford, with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers. The former spouses were married from 2010 to 2023. She filed for divorce from the actor of «The Lone Ranger» in 2020.
Hammer noted that the situation he found himself in was a «death of ego, a death of career», - describing it as a «neutron bomb» that exploded in his life.
In 2021, a woman named Effie accused Hammer of raping her in 2017. She revealed sexually graphic text messages allegedly sent by Hammer. In one message, the actor allegedly referred to himself as a cannibal, which he denied in his latest podcast appearance.
«People called me a cannibal, and everyone believed them», - he said on the podcast. «They said, 'Yes, this guy ate people.' Like, what? What are you talking about? Do you know what it takes to become a cannibal? You have to eat people! How can I be a cannibal?! It was strange».
