Does Austin Butler want to become a pirate? The 32-year-old Oscar nominee reacted to rumors that he may possibly join the «Pirates of the Caribbean» franchise during a recent interview. When asked about the speculation, Austin replied, «Oh, really? I haven’t heard about that».
«I loved 'Pirates of the Caribbean'», - the star of «Dune: Part Two» told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Monday, June 10. «It just reminded me of childhood. In elementary school, we had to make these posters with your favorite music, your favorite actors. And at that time — I don’t know, in what grade, maybe fourth or third grade — but there were 'Pirates of the Caribbean' [sic]».
As for whether he will set sail with the famous Disney franchise, Austin said, «It's tough because they did it so well. I liked what Johnny [Depp] did with it».
During a separate interview at one of the premieres of his latest film «Bikeriders», - Austin expressed his hesitation to join such an iconic franchise.
«Well, I mean, it’s always… I mean, I’m not… it’s not really real, you know?» he told a reporter, according to a video published by the Associated Press earlier this week. «But I think anytime you step into something that other people have done really well, you want to make sure that you bring something special to that story or something else. I liked the first [film], so I don’t know if I want to jump into something right away».
If a reboot with the actor Elvis happens, Austin noted that it «has to be done really well, but I don’t know».
The last time Disney fans saw Johnny, 61, in his Captain Jack Sparrow costume was in «Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales» in 2017. Original cast members Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom briefly reprised their roles as Elizabeth and Will Turner in a post-credit scene, where Will and Elizabeth are sleeping as Davy Jones' shadow approaches their bed. After Will wakes up and doesn’t find anyone, he falls back asleep, unaware of the wet floor.
