After a successful flyby of the Moon, the Artemis II crew is heading home! Astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen plan to return to Earth on Friday, April 10, with a landing in the Pacific Ocean. However, viewers eager to witness the landing are wondering if they will actually be able to see the crew’s return. So where exactly will Artemis II land in the ocean?
The lunar flyby mission will go down in history. In addition to stunning images of the Earth’s sunset from the lunar surface, Koch and Glover became the first woman and the first Black man, respectively, to head towards the Moon. Although science typically doesn’t evoke strong emotions, the crew shared a touching moment during their orbital flight around the Moon. They named a crater in honor of Wiseman’s late wife, Carroll Wiseman, who passed away from breast cancer in 2020. She is survived by two daughters, Ellie and Katie.
«We would like to name [the crater] Carroll», - mission specialist Hansen said in a video released by NASA. «A few years ago, we started this journey, and in our close-knit family of astronauts, we lost a loved one. Her name was Carroll. She was Reid’s wife, and the mother of Katie and Ellie. And we would like to name it Carroll».
