Aubrey Plaza and her family experienced a significant loss last year when her late husband, Jeff Baena, passed away. He was 47 years old. The couple quietly separated in 2024, but at the time of his death in January 2025, they were still legally married.

Jeff was a successful screenwriter, producer, and director. He is known for films such as «Little Hours» (2017), «Life After Beth» (2014), and «Spin Me Round» (2021). He collaborated again with Alison Brie, writing the screenplay for «Spin Me Round» (2022), in which she also starred.

One of Jeff’s biggest successes in Hollywood was co-writing the screenplay for «I Heart Huckabees» with David O. Russell. This critically acclaimed 2004 film was a comedy about existential private detectives.

The public had no idea that Aubrey was preparing for a wedding when she posted on Instagram on May 7, 2021, announcing that she had gotten married. Along with a photo of the couple, she wrote: «So proud of my dear husband @jeffbaena for coming up with another movie that will take us to Italy to cause a little more trouble 😈 Can’t wait to work with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also wrote the screenplay for this film!) and @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego @lauren_weedman and many other wonderful people».

On January 4, 2025, several outlets reported Jeff’s death. Authorities stated that he died by suicide.

As mentioned, Aubrey and Jeff were living separately at the time of his death.
