Buckingham Palace has announced that the royal family will not be participating in any public events in connection with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s announcement of early elections on July 4.
As stated by the palace on May 22: «In light of the Prime Minister’s announcement of early elections, the royal family — in accordance with normal procedure — will postpone events that may distract attention or detract from the electoral campaign… Their Majesties express sincere apologies to anyone who may be affected».
According to People magazine, King Charles III — who returned to public life in April after cancer treatment — and Prince William were supposed to participate in public events this week, but they have been canceled.
The news, released by the former home of Queen Elizabeth II, came almost simultaneously with the announcement by Princess of Wales that she will focus on recovery after battling cancer and will be on leave until the fall of 2024. «She will return to work when she receives the green light from doctors», - a representative of Kensington Palace said.
