Justin Timberlake’s bartender came to his defense after his arrest for driving under the influence in New York on June 18. «If he had been drinking more, he wouldn’t be here», - a source told People after confirming that the 43-year-old singer had only consumed one drink.
This statement was made shortly after the hitmaker of «Mirrors» was caught driving under the influence, where he told officers, «I had one martini and was driving home to meet my friends». During this incident, he refused three times to take a breathalyzer test after his arrest.
Defense attorney Edward Burke Jr. confirmed to ET that Justin was charged with one count of driving under the influence and will appear in court virtually on July 26.
«A strong smell of alcohol was emanating from his breath, he couldn’t focus, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on all standardized tests to determine intoxication», - the Sag Harbor Police Department reported.
The statement said, «The vehicle stop was initiated by a police officer from the village of Sag Harbor, and after investigation, it was determined that Mr. Timberlake was operating his vehicle while intoxicated».
Additionally, the police mentioned that «upon contact with [Justin], it was determined that [he] was operating the aforementioned vehicle while intoxicated, as his eyes were red and glassy, a strong smell of alcohol was emanating from his breath, he couldn’t focus, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on all standardized tests to determine intoxication».
An insider told ET that «Justin feels regret, shame, and humiliation, but also feels responsibility… [he] does not believe he needs help with alcohol», - instead viewing the incident as a «serious lapse in judgment».
Despite the incident, he briefly mentioned the arrest on his show in Chicago. «We've been together in joy and sorrow, left and right, and, um, it’s been a tough week… But you’re here. I’m here… I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you continue to love me, and I love you back. Thank you so much», - he said
