In South Carolina, a bartender is accused of murdering a woman whom she allegedly pushed down a staircase. The incident occurred on October 3, 2025, at Coot’s Bar & Grill on Edisto Island, when 68-year-old Mary Hunt, while working, pushed Joyce Tomlinson, leading to her falling and hitting her head on a concrete slab.
According to Tomlinson’s friend, Ruth Peterson, the woman was on vacation to celebrate her 62nd birthday with her. After Tomlinson went to pay the bill, Hunt, according to a witness, began yelling at her and then pushed her. Peterson recounted that when she approached Tomlinson, she showed no signs of life and was bleeding.
Tomlinson sustained a serious head injury and was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where she died on October 26, 2025, after three weeks in intensive care. She is survived by her mother, son Wesley, and siblings.
Hunt was arrested on September 14 and is now charged with involuntary manslaughter. She denies pushing Tomlinson, claiming that the latter fell on her own after becoming aggressive. Hunt is being held on a $ 100,000 bond. If convicted, she could face up to 30 years in prison.
