Barry Manilow shocked his fans in December 2025 when he announced his diagnosis of lung cancer. The news came after he had been battling bronchitis for several weeks, with no improvement in sight. Although he briefly returned to the stage in Las Vegas, he thanked his «wonderful» doctor, who examined his lungs and discovered the cancerous growth.

In his Instagram post in December 2025, Barry revealed that his doctor found a «cancerous growth» on one of his lungs.
«As many of you know, I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis, followed by another five weeks of a relapse», - Barry wrote in his Instagram note. «Although I have already overcome bronchitis and was back performing on stage at Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure everything was okay».
Barry added that the MRI «revealed a cancerous growth on my left lung that needs to be removed».
While the news was concerning, Barry reassured his fans, saying that «pure luck» allowed the cancerous tumor to be detected «so early», - calling it «good news».
Barry appears optimistic about his health. In the same Instagram announcement about his diagnosis, the «Mandy» singer noted that his doctors «do not believe the cancer has spread, and I am undergoing tests to confirm their diagnosis».
As for his recovery, Barry mentioned that he will not be undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy. «Just chicken soup and reruns of 'I Love Lucy,'» he joked.
