Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers was open about his health problems before his death. About ten years before the death of the 48-year-old musician, Rivers revealed that he had to undergo a liver transplant. However, the cause of his death was not disclosed at the time of publication.
In honor of Rivers, Limp Bizkit members Fred Durst, Wes Borland, John Otto, and DJ Lethal wrote a joint statement on Instagram announcing the death of their late colleague. The nu-metal musicians called Rivers their «brother» and «heartbeat», - emphasizing his talent.
«In memory of our brother, Sam Rivers», - their statement read. «Today we lost our brother. Our colleague. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers was not just our bassist — he was real magic. The pulse beneath every song, calm in chaos, soul in sound».
The cause of Rivers' death was not immediately disclosed. In their public farewell, Limp Bizkit recalled their memories with Rivers and promised to «carry» him with them.
«From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought light and rhythm that cannot be replaced», - the statement read. «His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart immense. We shared so many moments — wild, quiet, beautiful — and each one meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime man. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every beat, on every stage, in every memory. We love you, Sam. We will always carry you with us. Rest in peace, brother. Your music will never end».
Rivers left Limp Bizkit in 2015 when he developed liver disease due to alcoholism. In John Wiederhorn’s book «Raising Hell» (Behind-the-Scenes Tales from the Lives of Metal Legends), the bassist and vocalist shared his experience.
«I got liver disease from excessive alcohol consumption», - Rivers said. «I left Limp Bizkit in 2015 because I felt terrible, and a few months after that I realized I needed to change everything because I had a really bad liver disease», - Rivers confessed. «I quit drinking and did everything the doctors told me. I got treatment for alcoholism and a liver transplant, which turned out to be a perfect match».
It is unknown if Rivers had a spouse or children at the time of his death. The late musician kept his personal life private
