Kaitlyn Clark and Victoria Vivians clashed during a basketball game between the Indiana Fever and the Seattle Storm on Thursday, May 30.
The argument started when Kaitlyn made a three-point shot and accidentally collided with her opponent from Seattle while defending.
Although it is unclear why the two girls got heated, Kaitlyn’s teammate Aliyah, who had been hoping to work together since Kaitlyn was drafted into the WNBA, had to intervene to separate them.
Indiana ultimately lost to Seattle with a score of 103−88. The WNBA rookie was only able to score 19 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds, and 7 turnovers.
«We lost the game in the third quarter… I just thought our defensive rotations were poor… It wasn’t so much about offense. It was about our defense. You’re not going to win a basketball game giving up 103 points», - said Kaitlyn.
This defeat came shortly after she was introduced to the Women’s National Basketball Association in February, instead of staying another year in college. After being the first pick in the 2024 draft, as reported by ESPN, Kaitlyn shared: «When you’re just sitting at the table, waiting for your name to be called, it really allows the emotions to fuel you… You’re with family. Obviously, playing basketball, I’m not there with family. So to share that moment with them and enjoy it, and the people who have always been with me and believed in me more than anyone else, that’s especially valuable».
Along with many other top college players, such as Cameron Brink — the goddaughter of Steph Curry from the Golden State Warriors, Camila Cardozo, Angel Reese, and others, were also drafted. «This is a generation class… I feel like this class is just different. I know this class is different… Women’s basketball is on the rise. Everyone is watching… I’m grateful to be part of this draft. I feel like we’re moving in the right direction», - said the fourth pick in the draft, Rikkea Jackson
