Billie Eilish may have millions of fans, but her inner circle has shrunk since she became famous. During an appearance on the BBC podcast «Miss Me?» on Monday, June 10, the 22-year-old singer and songwriter revealed that she lost all of her friends after her music career launched her into stardom.
«Well, I lost all my friends when I got famous», - said the vocalist of «What Was I Made for?». «Suddenly I was famous and couldn’t connect with anyone. It was hard. It was really difficult».
Pointing out that she is «very scared of rejection and I have a lot of issues with that», - Billie recalled a former employee who left and never spoke to her again.
«And then it was my 20th birthday, and I remember looking around the room, and there were only those I had hired. And they were all 15 years older than me or more», - she explained. «It was the worst thing that ever happened to me. And it made me realize, 'Oh, this is work.' If they leave, they will never see me again».
Despite the challenges she faced, the Oscar winner shared that last year she reunited with «a bunch of old friends». Now she has more friends, added Billie.
«Exactly a year ago, I met a bunch of old friends again and now I have so many friends», - noted the performer of the hit «Bad Guy». «I now have my own company. I can literally cry about it. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. … I said, 'Guys, I have friends, and I love you so much, and it’s been so long since I had friends.' I cried, and it’s really because I have friendship again».
Billie was only 14 when she started to be recognized. The artist of «Ocean Eyes» collaborated with her brother, producer Finneas O’Connell, for several years. After releasing the song «Bad Guy» in 2019, Billie quickly rose to fame. Eventually, she was invited to write a song for the popular 2023 film «Barbie», - for which she later won an Oscar. Earlier this year, Billie released her album «Hit Me Hard and Soft»
