The relationship between Prince William and Princess Kate once again found itself in the spotlight thanks to a new biography by Robert Jobson, «Catherine, the Princess of Wales». The book, set to be released on August 6, reveals what happened between William, 42, and Kate, 42, when they briefly separated in 2007 after almost five years of dating.
After their first meeting in college in 2001, the two friends eventually started dating by 2002. After moving in together and developing a serious relationship, Kate was invited to attend her then-boyfriend's military graduation in December 2006.
«Catherine knew that William was not in a hurry to propose, and the truth is that she was willing to wait until he was ready», - writes Robert in the book, according to The New York Post. «In the end, they were in love — weren’t they?»
However, after the Prince of Wales suddenly canceled his plans for New Year’s Eve 2006 with Kate, he decided to end their romance over the phone.
«In an emotionally charged 30-minute conversation, they both admitted that they were on 'different pages'», - reads an excerpt from the biography, according to the publication. «It was a blow to Catherine, who felt doubly deceived, being dumped over the phone».
After the breakup, Kate went on a world trip with her mother, Carole Middleton, and a friend. According to the biography, Kate «decided to hide her pain from the outside world», - although she was «desperately» upset about the breakup.
Ultimately, William began to «doubt» that he had ended things with Kate, and they reunited at a costume party in 2007.
«She came dressed as a nurse, and William immediately headed towards her», - the book reads. «Then they spent the first part of the evening in deep conversation before hitting the dance floor, where they kissed».
After rekindling their relationship in 2007, William and Kate got married in 2010. Since then, they have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Although neither of them has publicly commented on the new biography, they briefly discussed their breakup during an interview with ITV in 2010. William noted that the split occurred when they were «at university», - and they were both «trying to find themselves and were different characters, etc». at a young age.
«It was largely trying to find our own way, and we grew up», - emphasized William, adding: «And it was just a bit of space and things like that, and it worked out for the better».
As for Kate, she explained: «And I, at the time, wasn’t very happy about it, but actually, it made me stronger. You learn things about yourself that you may not have suspected, or I think you can be quite consumed by relationships when you’re young, and I really appreciated that time for myself, although I didn’t think so at the time. Looking back on it»
