Birmingham Airport entered partial evacuation mode early Wednesday morning, October 23, 2024, after suspicious activity was detected, causing some passengers to reconsider their flights due to changes in terminal zones. Flights were canceled, and a disruption occurred at the airport. In a statement posted on social media, it said: «While we apologize for any inconvenience and disruption, the safety of everyone at the airport was our top priority as we worked on this incident with police partners».
According to The Guardian, a suspicious vehicle was found at Birmingham Airport, leading to a search by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel. The airport announced on social media that passengers were temporarily prohibited from entering the building.
Although the reason for the evacuation is not yet clear, the airport statement emphasized that the safety of passengers and staff was their top priority. Some passengers were initially not allowed to enter the building with their luggage. However, after the vehicle was «deemed safe», - they were eventually allowed to proceed inside.
