Now, as it approaches before the spring equinox, people all over the United States are eagerly waiting to see the moon turn deep red once again. The lunar eclipse will turn eerily blood-red late at night on Thursday, March 13, and in the early morning hours of Friday, March 14.
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, sky watchers will be able to see the lunar eclipse between midnight and 6 a.m. Eastern Time. The moon will enter the penumbra at 11:56 p.m. Eastern Time / 8:56 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, March 13, and into the umbra at 1:09 a.m. Eastern Time / 10:09 p.m. Pacific Time. The Old Farmer’s Almanac indicates that the March 2025 lunar eclipse will be visible throughout North America.
This time, the lunar eclipse is called the «worm moon», - which, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, was named by people around the world for each full moon. Among them were Native Americans, who named the months after natural signals.
«Tribes tracked the changing seasons, giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon», - the almanac states. «Their names applied to the entire month in which they occurred».
The next blood moon eclipse will occur on September 7 and 8, 2025, but it will only be visible to sky watchers in Asia, Australia, Europe, and Africa, according to National Geographic.
The next blood moon visible in North America is expected on March 3, 2026, according to National Geographic
