«Twinkle twice» and «It Ends with Us»: Amazon MGM Studios issued a warning before the release

The film «Blink Twice» by Zoë Kravitz quickly made changes after complaints related to the film «It Ends with Us» by Blake Lively.
On August 21, Amazon MGM Studios issued a trigger warning two days before the release of Kravitz’s directorial debut. The warning was posted on the film’s official social media accounts and began with the phrase: «We are proud to finally share the film 'Blink Twice' with audiences in theaters around the world this week».
«Blink Twice» is a psychological thriller about abuse of power," the post continued. «Although it is a fictional film, it contains adult themes and images of violence, including sexual violence. This may cause distress or trigger some viewers».
The statement included a link to resources and additional information, noting that the film was rated R by the MPAA for «strong violence, sexual violence, drug use, and strong language throughout, as well as some sexual references».
«The film explores themes of sexual violence, power dynamics, and the complex experiences of survivors of sexual violence», - the note added. «If you or someone you know has experienced sexual violence — it is NOT your fault and you are NOT alone».
Inspired by the case of Jeffrey Epstein, the film stars Naomi Ackie as a young woman invited to join a tech billionaire, played by Kravitz’s fiancé Channing Tatum, on his private island.
The trigger warning came after criticism surrounding the film «It Ends With Us», which depicts domestic violence and was criticized for not being clear enough about its theme.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, the film follows Lily Bloom, played by Lively, as she enters a relationship with an abusive man, Ryle Kincaid, played by director Justin Baldoni.
In addition to criticism for lack of warning, Lively faced backlash for her promotional approach, urging moviegoers to «wear flowers» in the style of last year’s «wear pink» trend associated with Barbie, avoiding explicit mention of domestic violence.
Bridget Stumpf, founder and executive director of the Network for Victim Recovery of DC (NVRDC), wrote in an essay for The Hollywood Reporter that «It Ends With Us» «ultimately fails the survivors it should be advocating for», by «missing its content on domestic violence in the film’s marketing and not providing any content warnings before the film».
«When my colleague and I watched the film in a crowded theater on opening day, our first reaction after the film ended was disappointment at the lack of resources offered to survivors immediately after the credits», - Stumpf wrote. «There was a message after the credits, although it appeared after many had already left».
The message at the end of the credits read: «If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Visit: www.nomore.org for information and support».
