The fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul in the summer of 2024 was postponed due to health issues with Mike during the flight. According to a new statement from Most Valuable Promotions, doctors recommended that the 57-year-old fighter only engage in «light workouts» over the next few weeks.
«Following a reevaluation on Thursday with medical specialists regarding Mike Tyson’s ulcer flare-up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to engage in minimal or light workouts over the next few weeks, and then return to full unrestricted training», - explained MVP in a statement posted on social media last week.
The statement also noted that «both Mike and Jake agree that it is fair to provide equal training time to both athletes to prepare for this important match and to compete at the highest level».
«We fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to reach the level he expects from himself», - added MVP in their announcement.
Mike’s expected return to the ring was scheduled for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. A live broadcast on Netflix was also planned.
MVP concluded their statement by noting that Mike is «expected to return to his full training schedule in the coming weeks» and they plan to reschedule the fight «at a later date this year at AT&T Stadium».
«A new fight date will be announced by next Friday, June 7», - added MVP.
On May 26, Mike experienced a flare-up of his ulcer while on a plane traveling from Miami to Los Angeles. The athlete’s representatives later explained in a statement that he «felt nauseous and dizzy» due to the flare-up «30 minutes before landing», - and he was assisted by medical personnel.
Shortly after this, fans began to speculate whether Mike’s fight against 27-year-old Jake would be canceled or postponed. However, both fighters seemed to refute these rumors, as Jake tweeted: «You love making things up without knowing the facts, for clicks/likes. Nothing has changed #PaulTyson».
Even Mike spoke out, tweeting that he feels «100%» and added that he doesn’t need to feel 100% to beat Jake.
Despite the 30-year age gap between the two fighters, Mike was determined to make a comeback four years after his last fight in 2020 against Roy Jones Jr. The exhibition ended in a draw
