Country music artist and CMA nominee Alan Jackson met the love of his life in Denise Jackson when they were both teenagers. The newlyweds met in high school and have been married for over 40 years, but they have experienced several ups and downs in their relationship, especially during his battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which can affect his ability to perform. Nevertheless, he was able to overcome this and perform a concert, most notably at the Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony.

The spouses met at their school in Newnan, Georgia, and got married in 1979. Since Denise’s maiden name was already Jackson, she did not change it after exchanging vows.
After Alan began his music career, Denise took on the responsibility of helping him achieve further recognition. Working as a flight attendant, she noticed country music legend Glenn Campbell at the airport. After explaining to Glenn that her husband was an ambitious singer-songwriter, he gave Denise the contact information of his business manager, and Alan got his chance.
Despite what may seem to the public, the artist of «Mercury Blues» cheated on Denise, and they temporarily separated in 1997. She revealed the details of his infidelity and their time apart in her book «It's All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life». Promoting her book in 2007, Denise told PEOPLE magazine about her brief split with Alan.
«The greatest blessings in my life came from my most devastating destruction — his betrayal and our separation led to these new, passionate relationships with God and also led to us being able to have the kind of marriage we both always wanted, but just didn’t know how to have», - Denise explained to the publication. «Couples and especially women can relate to my story — my fears, my insecurities, my self-esteem issues, marriage problems we had as a result of getting married so early».
Denise admitted that she had rose-colored glasses when she married Alan, calling their teenage love story a «Cinderella complex».
«'I'll marry him, and he’s so confident and competent, and he’ll take care of me forever, and life will be one big fairy-tale world,'» she recalled. «On the outside, I’m sure most people think that about us. But the reality of our marriage is not perfect. Even now, every day — it’s working on ourselves. I feel like our relationship now is based on love and respect, and I think Alan sees me as an equal partner now, unlike old relationships when they were more based on dependency».
