Austin Towell, brother of Sydney Towell, scattered his sister’s ashes in her favorite place after her death at the age of 26. Austin shared this moment on his Instagram Stories on October 4, noting that «Sydney's spirit will live in the place she loved the most».
In the video, Austin is on a boat in Hobe Sound, Florida, with Sheryl Crow’s «Soak Up the Sun» playing in the background. He scattered Sydney’s ashes in the water along with flowers. Sydney passed away on August 5 after battling cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of bile duct cancer.
A heartfelt post was previously shared on Instagram, stating: «We will always love you, Sydney. I am proud of how you fought. I love you. Rest in peace. Sydney Elizabeth Towell. November 15, 1999 — August 5, 2026. An endless ray of sunshine. Daughter, sister, and friend to many».
Austin also paid tribute to his sister on TikTok, writing: «Rest in peace, the best sister in the world. Sydney fought with all her might and was always so positive; she brought happiness wherever she went».
Sydney was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2023 when she was 23 years old. She documented her battle with cancer on TikTok, where she had over 1 million followers. During her treatment, she underwent chemotherapy and major liver surgery, and had her gallbladder removed. Before her death, Sydney was preparing for the next phase of a clinical trial using tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy.
Despite her serious condition, Sydney maintained a positive attitude. In one video, she said: «People always ask why I am so positive, and I reply: why not imagine the best-case scenario, the best outcome?»
A day before her death, Sydney’s family reported on her condition, noting that she had been moved to hospice care. Austin wrote on TikTok: «Sydney has been moved to hospice and is surrounded by friends and family. Thank you for your love and support».
