The Menendez brothers became infamous criminals after they killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. Over 35 years later, their case has become relevant again, especially after the release of Ryan Murphy’s series «Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story» and new evidence indicating that their father sexually abused them throughout their childhood. Among this evidence is a letter that Erik wrote to his cousin Andy Cano a few months before the crime. In addition to the new evidence, former Menudo group member Roy Rossello stated that his father Jose also sexually abused him.

Andy Cano was the cousin of Lyle and Erik Menendez. He passed away in 2003 from a drug overdose at the age of 29.
Andy was questioned by the brothers' lawyer, Leslie Abramson, and stated that Erik confessed to him that their father sexually abused him. Although this was a significant issue in the first trial, it led to a mistrial. It only came to light in the second trial, when both brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
According to The U.S. Sun, Andy’s sister Martha discovered a letter that Erik wrote to Andy, describing the abuse. In the letter, Erik wrote: «I tried to avoid dad. It’s still happening, Andy, but it’s gotten worse for me. I can’t explain it. He’s so full on that I can’t stand it». He continued: «I never know when it’s going to happen, and it’s driving me crazy. Every night I stay awake, thinking he might come in. I need to get this out of my head».
It is currently unclear whether the case will be reopened. The brothers have a hearing scheduled for November. Recently, Los Angeles prosecutor George Gascon announced that he will make a decision on a possible retrial or sentence review for the Menendez brothers
