Brazilian gymnast Flavia Saraiva performed with a bandage on her right eyebrow during the women’s team gymnastics final at the Olympics in Paris on July 30.

However, what was under the bandage looked worse than a small cut.

The athlete received a significant bruise under her eye along with a cut on her face after a terrible fall during warm-ups on the uneven bars. The 24-year-old gymnast slipped from an eight-foot bar during training her routine on the parallel bars and hit herself in the eye with her knee.

Despite the injury, Flavia was able to flawlessly perform her routine on the uneven bars during the competition.

«She left to get medical attention, but she came back», - said NBC commentator Rich Lerner during the broadcast. «She is strong».

«There is nothing worse than not just falling during warm-ups, but also forgetting and having that moment in mind right before the competition», - added analyst and Olympic champion Lori Hernandez.

After being bandaged, Saraiva performed her routine on the uneven bars at the Games, scoring a strong 13.666 points. According to NBC News, she continued her performance with a floor routine set to French cabaret classics.

Many fans quickly expressed their admiration for the athlete’s ability to overcome adversity.

One social media user commented: «I can’t believe she helped Brazil win a bronze medal after a terrible fall during warm-ups on the uneven bars. Flavia Saraiva is a warrior!»

Another said: «She is my hero».

Flavia, who also competed at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020, is no stranger to overcoming injuries. The Brazilian gymnast has undergone several ankle surgeries, which raised doubts about her participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

«Every time I came back, I felt something else, another leg injury», - she explained on Olympics.com. «I asked myself, 'What will my year be like?' Many know, but I wanted to stop training. I said, 'What am I doing here?' I can’t perform at my best. I always want to be among the best».

But even with these doubts, Saraiva proved that she is good enough to help Brazil win a medal against the best competitors in the world, finishing less than one point behind Italy and taking home the bronze. It was Brazil’s first team medal in gymnastics
