Ana Carolina Vieira spoke out after being excluded from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Tuesday, July 30. The 22-year-old Brazilian swimmer stated that she filed a complaint of harassment and is considering legal options against the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) after she had to leave and return home when she was found outside the Olympic village in Paris overnight with her boyfriend Gabriel Santos.

Ana and Gabriel, who is also a swimmer from Brazil, left the Olympic village on the evening of July 26. When they returned, they were both kicked out. Ana’s team competed in the 4×100 relay the next day and finished in seventh place. COB approached her and asked about her actions. «The Brazilian Confederation of Aquatic Sports (CBDA), COB decided to punish two athletes for leaving the Olympic village without permission last Friday», - the COB statement said, according to Daily Mail. «In addition, athlete Ana Carolina, in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, challenged the technical decision made by the Brazilian swimming team committee. Thus, athlete Gabriel Santos was punished with a warning, and athlete Ana Carolina Vieira was excluded from the delegation. She will immediately return to Brazil».

In an Instagram Story, Ana stated that she left her belongings and had trouble contacting COB. «My things are there [in the Olympic village], I arrived at the airport in shorts. I had to open my suitcase at the airport. I am in Portugal, I am going to Recife, and then to São Paulo», - she said. «I am helpless, I have no access to anything, I cannot contact anyone. I was told to go through COB channels. But how can I contact them?»

Ana said she filed a complaint of harassment but has not received a response yet.

Swimming team leader Gustavo Otsuka also spoke out and said that the Olympics are not a «vacation», - criticizing her reaction and decision. «We are here working for Brazil, for the 200 million taxpayers who work for us. We cannot play around here», - he said
