Fans of Formula 1 and Brad Pitt may find that the actor’s film is a bit difficult to find through a Google search.
Earlier today, Apple Studios announced that the long-awaited car racing film will simply be called F1 and will be released in American theaters on June 27, 2025. They also released a teaser poster for the film, which brings together director «Top Gun: Maverick» Joseph Kosinski, screenwriter Ehren Kruger, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
The news came after the 60-year-old actor visited the British Grand Prix for the second year in a row on Thursday, watching the races from the paddock at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire, England. The film was created in collaboration with Formula 1 and the F1 community, including 10 F1 teams and their drivers, the FIA, and race organizers. The executive producer is Copper Penny Toou, the CEO of Copper. In addition, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, 39, is a co-producer of the project.
Pitt was previously spotted enjoying himself at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, in October 2022, where he chatted with Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Formula 1 races captivate both sports fans and casual viewers, especially since Netflix first released the series «Formula 1: Drive to Survive» in March 2019. Since then, the sports documentary series has released a new season every year, with the latest season premiering on February 23.
Given how exciting the series and Formula 1 have been for viewers, some have expressed disappointment in the lack of creativity in the film’s title.
One fan took to social media and commented: «Horrible title. Imagine a basketball movie just called 'NBA💀'».
Others, however, were not bothered, expressing their expectations for the film’s release. «Just give it the Oscar already!» added one fan.
In the film F1, the actor from «Moneyball» will play a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside his teammate, played by Damson Idris, in the APXGP team, a fictional team at the start. The film is shot during real Grand Prix weekends, as the team competes against the titans of the sport. The cast includes Oscar nominee Kerry Condon, Oscar winner Javier Bardem, Emmy nominee Tobias Menzies, Emmy nominee Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo
