Brendan Hunt talked about his «eventful» year in an exclusive interview

The star of the series «Ted Lasso» and «Luca» Brendan Hunt gave an exclusive interview to Hollywood Life about the «busy» year ahead of him. And it’s not just because he’s getting ready to film the fourth season of the Apple TV+ series. Brendan also has other projects and another persona he embodies: Dr. Anton Hill, through his partnership with Raid. The self-proclaimed «bug doctor» teaches viewers how to deal with pests in the home.
«I'm always up for poking fun at academia», - says the 53-year-old actor and writer, referring to his funny and intense character from Raid, who loves «getting rid of those six-legged royal sugar-seeking ants» — in other words, ants.
As he prepares to bring back his character from «Ted Lasso», - Coach Beard, for the fourth season, Brendan notes that the rest of the year «will be busy» for him. Without revealing details of what fans can expect, Brendan praises the entire team and crew of «Ted Lasso» as «good professionals», - adding: «Every time we see each other, it’s like a class reunion».
Although he is known for his role as the loyal Coach Beard, Brendan also plays the animated conspiracy theorist and BBC analyst Gunter in «Luca» from Pixar, which was released in theaters early this summer. It was the first time Brendan voiced such a «big project», - so he «really wanted to get it right», - as he tells Hollywood Life — so much so that he used an «emergency plank» in the studio to «scare» during the character’s voiceover.
To wrap up the year 2025, Brendan also appears in the upcoming sci-fi film «Terrestrial», - which will premiere at the Montreal Science Fiction Festival this month.
«It's a classic… small sci-fi thriller with an incredible cast under the direction of [director of 'Hot Tub Time Machine'] Steve Pink», - boasts Brendan, calling the director a «damn legend» and adding: «It's not a role I get to play often. Not too different from Dr. Anton Hill, but perhaps a bit darker».
Talking about his Raid character, who holds a doctorate (of course, in dealing with pests), Brendan jokes that Raid «was one of [his] first words» as a child. A Chicago native, the actor from «We're the Millers» remembers growing up with unpleasant bugs at home — specifically cockroaches.
«I grew up in Chicago. I have a history with cockroaches», - he notes. «If people are really afraid to come face to face with them, who am I to pretend I don’t appreciate that position?»
Recalling a terrifying experience, Brendan tells Hollywood Life that he has been «scarred for life» by one childhood memory.
«There was one time when I was very little — my mom had a habit of carrying a bag of Nestlé chocolate chips with her», - he recalls, adding that when he was about 4 or 5 years old, he noticed she spilled some chocolate on the floor one night. Familiar with what cockroaches look like, Brendan says he touched each chip, and one of them turned out to be a cockroach.
As Raid products offer protection against various pests, including ants, crickets, and scorpions, Brendan admits that cockroaches are «the worst».
«We always had cockroaches», - says the Illinois State University graduate. «I don’t think I was allowed to use the [Raid] product at the time.
