Brittany Cartwright has filed for divorce from Jax Taylor after five years of marriage.
Six months after the «Vanderpump Rules» stars announced their split, Cartwright filed the paperwork on Tuesday, August 27, citing the official date of separation as January 24. She listed «irreconcilable differences» as the reason for their divorce, according to court documents.
In her statement, Cartwright requested legal and physical custody of their three-year-old son, Cruz Michael Cauchi, asking the court to grant Taylor visitation rights. She also requested the termination of spousal support for both parties. TMZ was the first to report this.
The reality TV star, who married Taylor in June 2019, previously revealed on February 29 during an episode of their joint podcast «When Reality Hits» that they and Taylor were going separate ways.
«I know in my last podcast I hinted that a lot of marriages go through tough times», - she said. «Yes, marriages are tough in general, and I had a particularly tough year last year. Jax and I are taking a break, and I have made the decision to move to a different house to take some space for my mental health».
She added, «I am living day by day. I don’t know what the future holds for me, but right now my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz».
Last month, Taylor’s representative confirmed to TMZ that he is receiving inpatient treatment for his mental health following the couple’s split. Taylor seems to have turned to seeking help, posting on his Instagram Story a photo of him kissing Cruz on the cheek, captioning it: «Trying to be better for you, buddy, daddy loves you so much».
Cartwright and Taylor, who first met in 2015 at a bar in Las Vegas, briefly broke up in 2017 and got engaged in June 2018, have always been open about the «ups and downs» of their relationship.
After admitting to cheating on Cartwright in 2017 with former SUR waitress Faith Stowers, Taylor told PEOPLE that they had «weathered the storm» in that chapter of their relationship and were in a «great place».
«We kind of weathered the storm», - he explained. «We're still kind of going through it… [but] right now we’re in a great place — maybe better than ever»
