The future of the CBS Evening News program has become uncertain after Maurice Dubois confirmed his departure from the show just a few weeks after his co-host John Dickerson announced his own exit. What will happen to the show after both anchors leave?
Here’s what we know about the future of CBS Evening News.
Maurice did not disclose the reasons for his departure from CBS Evening News, but he confirmed that his last broadcast on CBS News will take place on December 18, 2025.
«I'm moving on», - Maurice wrote in the caption of his Instagram post this month. «December 18 is the day of my last broadcast on CBS News. It has been the honor of a lifetime. A total of 21 years, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York. What a privilege! Being invited into your homes night after night, delivering the news, meeting amazing people, and telling their stories. I will leave filled with gratitude, valuable relationships, and incredible memories. Just a few weeks left; until then, see you on CBS Evening News every evening at 6:30 PM».
There is no evidence that CBS fired either Maurice or John. Both anchors announced their departures on their own.
In an Instagram post in October 2025, John wrote that he is «extremely grateful for everything CBS has given me — a job, audience attention, and the honor of being part of the network’s history — and I am thankful to my dear colleagues who made me a better journalist and a better person».
«At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, 16 years after I first sat in the anchor chair of Face the Nation», - John added in his announcement.
There are no indications that CBS Evening News has been canceled. Maurice and John replaced former anchor Norah O’Donnell when she left the program in January 2025.
Although several reports pointed to the closure of CBS Saturday Morning, the now-former co-host Michelle Miller stated that the program «will still be here», - even though she and Dana Jacobson will be leaving it.
