One of the most famous names from the Menendez trial was defense attorney Leslie Abramson. After one of the juries deadlocked in the first trial, another trial was held, and the brothers were found guilty of first-degree murder of their parents, Jose and Mary Louise «Kitty» Menendez, as well as conspiracy to commit murder in 1996. So, did Lyle and Erik stay in touch with Leslie?

Find out if Leslie stays in touch with the Menendez brothers.

Leslie is a former attorney from Queens, New York. She moved to Los Angeles in the 1960s and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, according to The Washington Post. The mother of two children spoke to the publication after the conviction of Lyle and Erik in 1996 and mentioned the need to «take a break» from high-profile legal cases.

«This case was incredibly stressful the first time and horrific the second time», - Leslie said. «Of course, this will be my last capital case for a while. I need a break from this. But at the same time, I’m not ready to do nothing».

Regarding the Menendez brothers' crime, Leslie noted that they were «troubled» children and ultimately «broke» after, according to their claims, facing emotional, physical, and sexual abuse in childhood.

«I've represented people accused of murder for 27 years, and these guys just don’t fit anyone I’ve ever represented», - Leslie said, insisting that «they're not killers. They’re troubled kids in a very difficult and appalling home environment, and they broke… It’s a monstrously disproportionate verdict and punishment for what happened here. When children kill their parents, something is wrong in that family. It’s a different moral mix for sexual predators, those who kill strangers».

It seems that Leslie did not stay in touch with either Lyle or Erik after their conviction in 1996. At that time, the brothers were sent to different prisons but met in 2018. Since then, they have been in prison at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.

After the trial of the Menendez brothers, Leslie represented producer Phil Spector. He was charged with second-degree murder in the death of Lana Clarkson in 2003. Leslie ultimately withdrew from the case, and Phil was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2009. Since then, Leslie has remained out of the public eye.

In the Netflix documentary «The Menendez Brothers» in October 2024, Leslie declined an interview. However, she provided a statement for the documentary film, saying, «30 years is a long time. I would like to leave the past in the past. Neither the amount of media nor teenage petitions will change the fate of these clients. Only the court can do that, and they have already made their decision».

Leslie has two children. She keeps them and her personal life away from the public eye.
