Former mayor of New York and disbarred lawyer Rudy Giuliani was involved in a car accident in New Hampshire on August 30, 2025, resulting in his hospitalization. The 81-year-old Giuliani was helping a victim of domestic violence, as reported by his representative, when he was rear-ended by a car. Colleagues, friends, and supporters of Giuliani naturally inquired about his recovery and what had happened to him.
Below are updates on Giuliani’s health condition.
On August 30, 2025, Giuliani was rear-ended after helping a victim of domestic violence in New Hampshire, announced his press secretary and chief of security, Michael Ragusa.
«Prior to the incident, [Giuliani] had stopped to assist a woman who had become a victim of domestic violence», - Ragusa explained in his public statement. «Mayor Giuliani immediately rendered aid and called 911. He remained on the scene until responding officers arrived to ensure her safety. Subsequently, while on the highway, Mayor Giuliani’s vehicle was rear-ended at a high rate of speed».
Ragusa added that the Republican «was taken to the nearest trauma center, where he was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg» as a result of the accident.
At the time of publication, it was unclear who had hit Giuliani on the road. However, Ragusa insisted in a separate tweet that it was «not a deliberate attack».
Giuliani is «recovering wonderfully» and is «in good spirits» after the injuries he sustained, Ragusa wrote on August 31, 2025.
In addition to the injuries sustained in the 2025 accident, Giuliani had previously survived a health scare. In April 2000, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. At the time, he was 55 years old, and he fully recovered.
To combat the cancer, Giuliani opted for the implantation of radioactive seeds in his prostate, and then underwent dual radiation treatment instead of surgery, NBC News reports.
