Former President Donald Trump is under heightened security due to a threat against his life.
The 78-year-old politician has become the target of Ronald Lee Servud, a 66-year-old man who, according to the sheriff’s office of Kochiz County, is «being considered as a subject of investigation for threats of assassination against a presidential candidate». Police are providing security at the border where Trump is planning to visit, and actively searching for the suspect.
The sheriff’s office reported that Servud has a criminal history, including DUI charges, hitting a pedestrian, and failure to register as a sex offender. He is described as a white male, 6 feet tall with white hair and green eyes. The threats, reportedly made on social media, have led to increased security measures.
This situation arose during Trump’s election campaign, where he is running for president alongside his Republican ally J.D. Vance. Trump has attended several rallies, despite a previous assassination attempt by a shooter who was later caught and died. Reflecting on this incident during the Republican National Convention, Trump said, «The bullets kept flying, when very brave Secret Service agents rushed to the stage — and they really did, they rushed to the stage. These are great people. At great risk, I will tell you. And they rushed to me to protect. Blood was everywhere, and yet, I felt very safe because I had God on my side. I felt it. I felt it».
