Jessica Aber, former prosecutor of Virginia County, was found dead on March 22, 2025. She was 43 years old. Her death remains a mystery as authorities investigate the case. Just two months before her death, Aber resigned from her position shortly before Donald Trump’s inauguration.

I am deeply grateful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, as well as President [Joe] Biden for the opportunity to lead this office, and Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership. I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to uphold the law and strengthen society’s trust».

Aber was a lawyer and former prosecutor of Virginia County, serving in that position from 2021 to 2025.
Originally from Walnut Creek, California, she began her career as a judicial clerk for former Judge M. Hannah Lauck of the Eastern District of Virginia in 2006. She progressed in her career and became Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division of the Eastern District of Virginia in 2016, a position she held until becoming an attorney in 2021.
On March 22, 2025, the Alexandria Police in Virginia found Aber dead in her home. Current prosecutor of Virginia County, Eric S. Siebert, expressed his condolences for Aber’s death in a statement, saying, «Her professionalism, grace, and legal expertise set the standard. While we are shocked by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will follow her example and strive to meet this standard», - as reported by USA Today.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of Aber’s death. At the time of publication, police were withholding most details about Aber’s death from the public
